Overview

ABOUT Dr Gerald Tan

Dr Gerald Tan is a Specialist Urologist and accredited Robotic Surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital (Orchard & Novena campuses) with a keen interest in minimally invasive urologic surgery and urologic cancer therapies. Dr Tan graduated from the University of Edinburgh, UK in 1996, and completed his specialist training in urology in 2007 at both Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and Singapore General Hospital.

A. (L-R) Dr Tan with his mentors Professor Ash Tewari & Professor E. Darracott Vaughan, Jr during his 2-year fellowship in prostate cancer research and robotic urologic oncology.
B. Weill Cornell Medical Centre, Upper East Side, New York City.

Dr Tan then completed a 2-year fellowship in both prostate cancer research and robotic urologic oncology under world-renowned robotic surgeon Professor Ash Tewari, Director of both the Prostate Cancer Institute and LeFrak Institute of Robotic Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York City. With Professor Tewari and his co-investigators at Cornell, Dr Tan also explored the potential of novel laser technologies to better visualize the tissues around the prostate that contain the delicate microscopic nerves responsible for erection. Their groundbreaking research has been recognized with top awards and honors from the American Urological Association, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, and the International College of Surgeons.
